A Leaf

She fell… like a leaf
discarded by season
Without consent needed or
given
She gave into the wind
That a while ago only caused
her to wave
Like when she armed herself with his arms
That not long ago also married
her
Now on the floor
Part of the waste
All he could do was watch her
fall
Let her go when she didn't even belong here
Climate never loses character
But seasons change, and so do
their names
She was the glory of trees in
bloom
The crown of summer and the
sapphire ring of spring
Sometimes to no witness
Like a whisper, she fell only
to discovery
She might have lost composure
on her fall
And yet the soil has gained
compost
To compose through the
passing cold
Another anthem that the
season’s beauty will dance to
